ASSOCIATION oF FATIMA JINNAH oLD GRADUATES (AFJOG)

Thinking and Planning

By 1963, a decade after the first batch of students had graduated from Fatima Jinnah Medical College (FJMC), the institution had gained  international recognition and established itself as a pillar of medical education. It was during this time that visionary alumni—Dr. Basharat Yousaf, Dr. Qamar Khan, and Dr. Rose Madan—felt the need for formation of an old student’s association to unite former students and support their alma mater.

Formation of AFJOG

On December 28, 1983, during a memorable get to gather at Dr. Akhtar Malik’s residence, the president of US Alumni presented the idea of having a FJMC old students’ Association The idea resonated strongly with Dr. Nabiha Hassan, who responded with conviction:

“CONSIDER IT DONE!”

In April 1984, Prof. Dr. Nabiha Hassan gathered a dedicated team of passionate and like-minded individuals who were committed to turning this vision into reality. With unwavering determination, they raised funds, explored opportunities, and drafted a constitution. Membership drives were launched with great enthusiasm, particularly for lifelong members. The first General Body Meeting, attended by Alumni from across the country, marked the official beginning of what is now the Association of Fatima Jinnah Old Graduates (AFJOG).

What started as a simple conversation over tea became a powerful movement, uniting graduates across generations. Today, AFJOG stands as a testament to the dedication of its founders, serving as a socio-medically aware organization committed to the advancement of healthcare and education. It continues to honor the vision of its pioneers and remains a source of pride for all who believe in its noble mission.

Out of vision and dreams, realities emerge,
Your ideas should be lofty, your vision far-reaching,
Dedication and hard work, achieves any goal,
If your heart and intentions are pure, then Allah helps you for sure.
